Saarschleife

Spread the love

Germany’s Saarschleife, arguably the closest to the Grand Canyon’s Horseshoe Bend in Europe or at least in Germany, is a tourist magnet year round for all the obvious reasons. But don’t just imagine it, take a look and scroll.

One of the most, if not the most scenic spot along the Saar River is the Saarschleife, 60km northwest of Saarbrücken. Here, the river makes a spectacular, almost unbelievable hairpin turn, flowing 10km to return to a point just 2km from where it started. Further up the road, approximately 5-6km near Mettlach, the viewing platform Baumwipfelpfad Saarschleife is accessible.
